Here on my channel I enjoy the great hobby of Model Railroading. I currently have a shelf switching layout in a spare bedroom. I enjoy sharing the hobby though my videos and will post whatever I am working on including Layout Progress, Custom Vehicle/Locomotive builds, operating action and whatever else I get into.

Your updated layout looks fantastic, and that DJI gimbal really allows for some great panning sequences. Also like some of the scene shots where your switcher is passing behind freight cars. And then there is the very realistic clumping of scrub brush at 12:31, which looks great.
Appreciate you making this video because I did NOT know about Kadee shelf couplers, nor about the fantastic HobbyZone modular shelving systems. Also, your method for modeling piles of snow is ingenious, and I look forward to seeing how you weather them, and I also like how you closed out this video with a prototypical switching session with the camera at track level. Very immersive. Last, please consider enabling your UA-cam "Thanks" button so we can drop some appreciation into your tip jar.
Beautiful little switching layout, and I used to want a huge basement layout, but after looking at artistic railroad dioramas like your, and others, my perspective has changed, and my small bedroom / office - with three usable walls, albeit with slopped ceilings that limit the layout height - is enough for me. Especially since I can focus far more time into the small details, like you have done, which will bring my railroad to life, thus permitting immersive switching sessions.
Thank you for the comments. Lots of fun to be had even with limited space. Enjoy the new build! -John
Great work John!!!!
Omg. I didn’t realize it was you that commented! What an honour!
Lol I enjoy your videos
Awesome! Love to see guys come together for an op session
that is the big thing,, just try it and see how it goes .
Beautiful layout. Great update! Thanks for sharing. Dave
Nice looking layout! I really like your scratch built car mover. Keep up the good work!
Thank you
Nice
Awesome layout, John...nice to see some ops with Heath and Don. Waiting for the live chat to drop, if you had it on.
That was interesting and very cool.
great session guys ;-) sorry I missed it live - I was on a train lol - VIA rail from Belleville to Guildwood. I love the Late Night Hobbies kit you've added. It looks great. Hope you had a fun ops session
Thanks for checking us out!
Enjoying your work. I myself did as you did. Leaving N Scale. I like very much attention to detail, and HO is far better! I understand that for HO, you need much more space, but a shelf layout can be very satisfying. I am working by modules. So I can move, and re install.
That’s awesome to hear! Thanks for the comment
John is it OK to use a video from your channel for a podcast I am doing on shelf layouts.
Absolutely! No worries
@@RailserveJohn And it is it named after John Allen (John 2618)?
@@laspiedrasrailroadno my name is John and that was actually my fire fighter ID. I created the channel way before I thought of creating videos
The podcast is up.
That is such a great idea for hoses ! I think I will try this.
Wow, that is a wonderfully detailed shelf layout, and I'm *subscribing* for inspiration, although I don't think I'll ever get to your level of detailing.
Thank you! Anyone can do it. I appreciate you following!
Very handsome streamlined C&O Hudson type locomotive,I really hope that I am able to purchase one of these locomotive models for myself in the future at some point as the C&O rr had an impressive variety of steam power.
So I know this post has been out for a while but I am also an apartment dweller and currently building my shelf layout. What more can you tell me about the Arduino?? I saw on Amazon you can purchase a starter set for $49.00 to learn some basics. I am very interested in the lighting part of it as I just think it adds a ton of realism.. How does the Arduino fit in. I also worked 14-14………
I live in the NE. this looks perfect for the season.
You sir are a natural artist. This looks fantastic. The quarter round upper trim? What an awesome look. Well done 👏🏻
Ih i see kit got yah
I love that mack dump where you buy that?? Great shelf layout by the way,.. Joe I did some old school fire trucks my layout is 70-89's did some pickup trucks with lights but wired them
About to weather some covered hoppers, and remembered you put this video out a while ago. I'll be using it as reference! Thanks for sharing your work, always looks great!
Thanks Joey! Let me know if you have any questions. I’ve adopted a few more techniques since this.
Really outstanding layout! Will have to check out just a few more videos of yours 😊
Amazing layout! I love how the backdrop makes the whole scene complete. Really excellent work. Also really cool how much attention you pay to all the details.
Very beautiful switching layout. Quite relaxing to watch your session - many thanks for sharing!
I'm also starting a shelf point to point HO scale layout in my apartment .... I was able to go 2 feet wide and made the bench an L shape 😁👍
Awesome! Enjoy!
Just rediscovered your channel thanks to meeting Ray Arnott at Central New York NMRA’s Ops Til You Drop and going through ATLP’s back catalog. Awesome stuff, glad I rediscovered you!
Thanks for watching! Ray is doing a great job over there
@@RailserveJohn agreed! Can’t wait to see more, and enjoy the work!
Found your channel, thanks to Heath. Excellent layout. 💯
Thanks John
All three of those locos are phenomenal. What an amazing job.
The layout looks awesome, John. You did a great job on Heath’s car. How did you get the division line between the colors so sharp?
Thanks! I use Tamiya tape. I seem to get the best results with their stuff
Nice job John
Wharthe vehicles beside the switcher at start up? Thanks.
They are a mix of some 3D printed models I have done
@@RailserveJohn I meant what is their function there near the switcher?
@@user-nk9ls1qn9c those were just maintenance vehicles and a fuel trailer to service the locomotive.
@@RailserveJohn great, thanks for that!
Sensational. Like you same boat had this in my head for 20 years had no idea how I would achieve it. BUT as i have just finished my overhead refueling gantry and waiting for the glue to dry on the catwalks I have several ideas. Yours is intresting and like you I have the Walthers pipe kit so I love the additional detail. I was going to use thick solder that you paint black and leave the ends silver however because my hoses will drop down they need that straight down floppy look so I will keep experimenting I have also implemented an ingenious drainage system seen from CN fuel depot. I just finished wiring i the appropriate lighting and the scene is coming along nicely should go live within In the next couple of months in the mean time next week is a show stopper I finish the costal scene where I even hand modeled my own fish and chips. Lol. Classic keep up the great work see you in the next one.
Thank you for the comment! Enjoy your build :)
Looks great! Very nice modeling!
Thank you!
Great layout and video...can you please tell me what you bought from Amazon to do the lights.and light sizes ? I have bought recently alot of trackters and trailers, a lot... please thank you much , joe
Thanks! I use the smallest LEDs I can find 0402 size LEDs work well. It’s just the really thin wire that can be a pain to work with.
